NDIS participants are given the opportunity to avail the services of those not registered with the NDIS to help with their disabilities. However, this can cause some complications and may lengthen the process of getting their NDIS plan approved.

- Assessment and Eligibility: Individuals must be assessed as eligible for SDA funding through the NDIS.
- Finding Suitable Accommodation: Once eligibility is confirmed, participants can choose suitable accommodation that meets their specific needs.
- Funding: The NDIS provides funding to cover the cost of the physical building, and in some cases, ongoing costs related to the accommodation.
- Support Arrangements: Participants may also receive funding for support services needed within the SDA property, including personal care, health support or assistance with daily activities.
- Tenancy and Management: Depending on the funding model chosen (e.g. self-managed, plan-managed, or NDIA-managed), participants or their representatives manage the tenancy and associated costs of the SDA property.
